Yes to Recall means Yes to Sensible Spending

What does a trustee do?

A trustee manages money and other assets for the benefit of someone else. A TVUSD trustee’s job is to carefully manage district funds, facilities, and other assets for the benefit of the students who attend our public schools.

How has Komrosky failed?

Komrosky has spent money in many ways that do not benefit TVUSD students. With trustees Wiersma and Gonzalez, he:

  • Hired a new law firm at $620 per hour instead of consulting any one of six firms the district already had under contract at less than $400 per hour

  • Wastes money consulting multiple attorneys on policies he wants to pass that don’t apply to Temecula

  • Does not consider the fiscal consequences of his actions before taking them:

    • His vaguely worded resolution against teaching CRT resulted in a lawsuit from parents and teachers.

    • His refusal to adopt state-approved K-5 social studies curriculum that was chosen and piloted by our own teachers brought threats of $1.5 million in fines from the State of California.

    • His ban on any “flag” other than the U.S. and California flags on campus forced administrators to waste hours approving the many exceptions (like college pennants, sports team banners, school sports championship banners in the gym, and flags on the football field).

  • Hired a law firm to defend against the CRT lawsuit when the district already had insurance to cover defense at no cost to TVUSD. The contract obligates the school district to pursue defense “all the way to the Supreme Court,” in Komrosky’s words. The fund used for this law firm is the fund that should be used for students; Komrosky took money from students to pay for an unnecessary law firm to fight a preventable lawsuit and refuses to settle, costing TVUSD and the students even more.

  • Uses TVUSD taxpayer money to fight Sacramento and Washington, D.C. for his pet political and religious beliefs, not for TVUSD students.

  • Fails to research alternatives or get competitive bids before contracting with various firms, for example:

    • Hazard, Young, Attea Associates (HYA) superintendent search firm with a minimum $50,000 contract

    • Media relations Melendez Consulting, whose wife donated to Gonzalez’s campaign, at $2500 per month and $235.00 per hour

  • Failed to follow recognized best practices before hiring a new superintendent. He signed a 3.5-year contract worth more than $1 million after one short interview, without seeing resumes, recommendations, references, or a background check. The new superintendent has a higher salary than the prior one despite less experience.

  • Forced the school district to hire substantial extra security for school board meetings:

    • His divisive policies required many Sheriff's Deputies as well as extra campus security personnel to keep order at all school board meetings in 2023.

    • At two meetings, the district also had to hire a private firm to search attendees.

    • He encouraged people from as far away as San Diego and Glendale to attend our meetings. These outsiders fueled disorder at meetings and increased security costs, yet they have no relationship to our local school district.

Komrosky needs to go.

We deserve a trustee who understands the job and spends district funds wisely!
